At the International Exhibition of Surrealism in London in 1936 Dali gave a lecture in a diving suit and helmet, holding two wolfhounds. The helmet had to be removed to prevent Dali suffocating#In 1964 Dali received from the Spanish government the Grand Cross of Isabel the Catholic. In 1982 Dali, an ardent monarchist, was made Marquis of Pubol for his "exceptional contribution to Spanish culture"#Andre Breton called Dali 'Avida Dollars' (Greedy dollars - an anagram of Salvador Dali). in protest at his money-making antics#Dali published a stream of books with typically provocative titles, including "Diary of a Genius" and "The Unspeakable Confessions of Salvador Dali"#In 1972 Dali announced that he would donate every work of art he owned to the Spanish state. They would be hung in the Dali museum under construction in his home town of Figueras#In March 1967 Dali said that he would ask $5m for his next painting to bring his prices in line with those of Leonardo da Vinci#Dali described his technique as: "Instantaneous and hand-done photography of the superfine, extravagant, extra-plastic, extra-pictorial, unexplored, super-pictorial, super-plastic, deceptive, hyper-normal and sickly images of concrete irrationality."#Of his 'melting-clock' painting, "The Persistence of Memory" Dali wrote: "The famous soft clocks were merely the soft, crazy, lovely, paranoiac-critical Camembert of time and space."#In 1951 Dali announced to the world: "For me, surrealism is over."
